SA: Extra 150 university nursing places in SA next year
ADELAIDE, Aug 29 AAP - The South Australian government today announced funding foran extra 150 places for nursing students in the state's universities in 2003.
Adelaide University, Flinders University, and the University of South Australia willeach be funded for an extra 50 placements at a total cost of $375,000.
Health Minister Lea Stevens said the increased funding was aimed at alleviating a chronicshortage of nurses in the state's hospitals.
"This will be part of a widespread strategic plan to recruit and retrain nurses, whichwill build the foundation for a sustainable future of the nursing profession in this state,"
Ms Stevens said in a statement.
The funding was part of a $2.7 million government nurse recruitment and retention strategy,she said.
